Latin jazz is a genre of jazz with Latin American rhythms. The two main categories are Afro-Cuban jazz, rhythmically based on Cuban popular dance music, with a rhythm section employing ostinato patterns or a clave, and Afro-Brazilian jazz, which includes samba and bossa nova

African American music began incorporating Afro-Cuban musical motifs in the 19th century, when the habanera (Cuban contradanza) gained international popularity. The habanera was the first written music to be rhythmically based on an African motif. The habanera rhythm (also known as congo, tango-congo, or tango ) can be thought of as a combination of tresillo and the backbeatWynton Marsalis considers tresillo to be the New Orleans "clave," although technically, the pattern is only half a clave.

JAM was art form created in 2001 by John Edward Hasse, curator of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. It became a national extension of the original Jazz Awareness Month created by the Louisiana Jazz Federation in New Orleans in 1980.

Jazz Appreciation Month was created to be an annual event that would pay tribute to jazz as both a living and as a historic music. Schools, organizations, and governments celebrate JAM with free concerts and educational programs. Its first year was 2001, with funding provided by the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation.

Jazz Timeline 1900 - 2000

After more than 100 years of history, it’s clear the word “jazz” means many different things to many different people. Depending on who’s doing the talking, it can either mean a highly specific musical style, or almost nothing.

The early timeline of jazz is spotty, vague and disputed, as one might expect of a musical movement that grew from a group that was both marginalised and exploited. Jazz evolved from the fringes of American society into one of the most influential, and enduring, musical movements of the 20th century.

The goal of Trio V.O.B. is to take you through the timeline of 100 years of this genre which today we call jazz.

Trico is a band that presents the sound of the Arabic Ud blended with Latin and modern Jazz flavour.

Trico is a band that presents the sound of the Arabic Ud blended with Latin and modern Jazz flavour. Trico was born when five musicians with very strong distinctive personalities came together with a unified passion for combining a variety of music from various continents. From the lyricism of the Syrian Ud we go to the Latin-jazz from the piano, and from the rawness of the Jazz Sax to the touch of the Latin and funky bass. None of this would be possible without the rhythm presented by David, who combines afro-cuban and jazz on the drums. This group's intention is to take the listener on a journey around the globe and through his or her own imagination. Trico performs a variety of music consisting of original compositions as well as works by today's maestros and those of the past.

Sat Sept 11 2021 - Smooth Jazz Project

Sat Sept 11 2021 - Smooth Jazz

Smooth jazz is a genre of music that grew out of jazz and is influenced by R&B, funk, gospel, latin, rock, and pop music styles.

The genre is an outgrowth of jazz fusion, it emphasizes its polished side. Generally, Smooth Jazz relies on rhythms and grooves instead of improvisation. There's layers of synthesizers, lite-funk rhythms, lite-funk bass, elastic guitars and either trumpets, alto or soprano saxophones

Since stress is the root of many health problems, the relaxing effect of jazz music can have incredible healing influence. It physically changes your body by lowering your heart and respiratory rate.

For this concert project the instrumentation is electr. bass, acoustic piano, drumset and saxophone.
